Third time’s the charm – Qing Ming Festival season has been receieving quite the good upgrade these past few years thanks to the Sound of Xity (SotX) – The China International Music Industry Expo and Festival – which brings together a host of local and international musicians, executives, venues, and fans in a city-wide music fest. And by international, they mean international – the music lineup this year spans across the entire globe – Poland, Brazil, South Korea, Russia, Spain, The Netherlands. No flavor of the week nonsense – these are bands who have international credibility and appeal, and it’s nice to find a lineup as capably curated as this (something that Strawberry and MIDI have been lacking increasingly). Kicking off Thursday and continuing till Sunday – The 3^rd Sound of the City Festival will take place across Beijing at Tango, Yugong Yishan, Mako Livehouse, Temple, Blue Stream Bar, and Dada and will include bands like Hanggai, who release their latest album, Daddy G of Massive Attack fame, South Korean instrumental outfit Jambinai, who received plenty of good press over at the recent SXSW, Taiwanese electro rock group Red, and plenty more. The didn’t even mention the countless industry conferences taking place at the Museum of Digital Arts (CMoDA). And yes, no T&A this year for their promo, but plenty of organs being donated.
