Must\’ve contracted something last night at that Cat AIDS event cause I\’m feeling all sorts of hell right now. But at least I got these dynamite shows to look forward to. Yes, it\’s the weekend and it\’s time to get down. Here\’s what\’s in store.

FRIDAY June 19th

Remember that Modern Sky Lab that opened up in Galaxy SOHO a while back? Well, they’re finally putting together some frigging showcases and tonight’s looks pretty stellar. Post electro rock outfit Glow Curve finish off their nation wide tour with a special performance alongside other Modern Sky highlights Streets Kill Strange Animals, another band who doesn’t get quite enough respect. Rockabilly kids! It’s your night to shine! Russian rockabilly trio The Meantraitors (oh, just got it) join our own bass slapping, tatted up trio Rolling Bowling – expect some good ol’ fashion rock and roll mayhem up in School. Punks pay tribute to the late and great Lei Jun, frontman for Misandao at the always welcoming Temple. Get your boots on and spike that hair cause it’s gonna get emotional as metal punk mainstays Hell City join d-beat punks D-Crash, street punks The Demonstrators, and hardcore outfit Unregenerate Blood get to ‘Ol!Ol!Ol!’ in memory of their friend and mentor. American saxophonist Steve Mackay – of Stooges’ fame — returns to Beijing to collaborate with the weird kids over at XP for a improve noise nightful – support by noise collective Vagus Nerve, led by China\’s premiere psychedelic axe shredder Li Jianhong. Shenzhen indie math emo outfit Pokemon Dad return to Beijing after a successful first run back in April and they’re looking to win over some more folks. Catch them tonight  at DDC alongside prog punk outfit Nakoma, fresh off their debut release. Come on down to Jianghu and experience a completely new take on Chinese folk music with singer / songwriter, Haozi , who will give a rare full banded performance alongside various guest artists and musicians from across the country.

Saturday June 20th

Round Eye are traveling up to School to release their new album, and performing with them will be Steve Mackay of Stooges/Violent Femmes fame!! Expect free jazz tinted doo-wop punk that’s out of this world. Joining the and making the trek up from Xi\’an for the occasion are punk legends Sucker! And of course, it’s not a proper shitshow without Bedstars. Gonna get freaky! Inner Mongolian rookies of the year Horse Radio continue their takeover of Beijing and beyond, and after a few jaunts through China\’s grasslands they\’re back again to properly release their debut (and stellar) album at Mao Livehouse – rock it indeed. Yunnan minority folk pranskters Shanren bring their awesome selves to DDC for a special one off performance. Seriously these guys are friggin ace. Over at Yugong Yishan New Noise hosts Japanese avant grade instrumentalists Mouse On The Keys, whose blend of minimal phrased piano and dynamic drumming, the pursuit of a live expe-rience composed of visual and audio expression performed by world class musicians, has made them a must see. Shenzhenese can’t get enough of our music scene and they want you to know! Catch math rocky melodic indie rockers Pokemon Dad (squirtel!) at Temple as they\’re joined by sludge indie rockers Death Narcissists  spazz math rock duo trio Fake Weed, looking to give out free wedgies all night.

Sunday June 21st

Yup, Feta de la Musique is back taking over Gulou and beyond for an all day Frenchified festival of music and love. Starts at noon and goes till late — a lot to take in so I recommend checking out our schedule over at LBM as well as read up on Josh’s picks at SmartBeijing. Best come prepared!
